We will never get anyone better than Scola for 3.5 mill per year. Definitely worth a shot at him even with his injuries. Plus he is a vary viable trading piece.
In fact, Cavs need some more pieces right now because they ahve nothing to trade other than a current project starter, draft picks and space. Sounds like a lot but not really.
To that end, would surely love to see an offer for Courtney Lee. 3pt shooter, good defender, better size than waiters and Irving. Would be a very good backcourt that would last for several years
Scola

Luis Scola - F/C - Rockets
The Cavaliers are "weighing a bid" for recently-waived Luis Scola, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Stein goes on to say, "Any team that bids for Scola must commit to minimum of $3+ million in Year 1 & $10+ million over three years."
It's a significant sum which would directly offset money he's owed by the Rockets, but Cleveland's frontcourt would certainly improve if they acquired Scola, who is still playing at a high level. The Mavericks, who just landed Elton Brand for $2.1 million, may also make a bid for Scola.

Lakers, Magic, Cavs Talk Three-Team Deal
By Alex Kennedy

The Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a three-team deal that would send disgruntled superstar Dwight Howard to Los Angeles, according to sources close to the situation. The three teams have discussed a number of scenarios. While no trade is imminent, the talks are ongoing.
One scenario would send Howard to Los Angeles, Andrew Bynum to Cleveland and a package of picks and prospects to Orlando, according to sources.
The Lakers would land Howard, who they have been aggressively pursuing for quite some time.
The Cavaliers would acquire a second star to put alongside Kyrie Irving, one that they should be able to keep long-term since Cleveland has been mentioned as a team that Bynum will consider signing an extension with.
The Magic would acquire a number of prospects and draft picks as well as a significant amount of cap relief, which is exactly what they want in exchange for Howard. Rather than bringing in veterans who will keep the team competitive, Orlando wants to stockpile young talent and completely rebuild.
The Houston Rockets remain interested in Howard and they’ve also been in contact with Magic brass in recent days. The Rockets’ money is currently tied up in restricted free agents Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik, whom they’ve signed to offer sheets.
At this point, there’s no clear frontrunner for Howard, but the Lakers and Rockets are certainly leading the charge for the six-time All-Star.

Been told by several trusted sources now that talks between Lakers, Cavs & Magic are real. "Cavs, as usual, being a big pain," said one. But they want assurances Bynum would sign extension before even thinking about it.

Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft
In Oklahoma City, there are a lot of fans of Varejao. Connect the dots plus Rob Hennigan would have a great trade chip for later.
15m Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft
Wondering why Varejao would be included in Dwight deal, he is signed to a modest contract for multiple years, averaged around double double.
19m Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft
Not sure how this trade's perceived but seems like Cavs give up everything to allow Dwight to be a Laker. What price is too much for Bynum?
26m Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft
According to multiple sources Magic would likely get Anderson Varejao plus picks and prospects.
30m Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft
Other logistics that prevent magic, lakers, cavs swap is that Cleveland will not give up assets for Bynum without assurances he'll extend.
Without Zeller or Waiters best prospects other than Irving that can be included for the Magic are Tristan Thompson & darrius Morris.
35m Probasketballdraft @Probballdraft
Saw @hoopsworld report but because Tyler Zeller & Dion Waiters just signed their deals with the Cavs no deal can include either for 30 days.

Latest reports suggest Cavs want picks in deal for Andrew Bynum. "He IS the pick," said opposing team exec. But Cavs want safety net in event Bynum bails after a year. Makes sense. And why Bynum's stance on extension would be critical to entire process.

There's a rumor out that Kyrie broke his hand in practice for summer league.
The realcavsfan site crashed while I was reading up on it so I have nothing more on it.

Irving was upset with himself after turning the ball over in practice, smacked his hand into the padding of the wall. But the pad was thin. He kept playing, then had the hand hit again and he took himself out.

Irving: "I’m a little disappointed for a freak accident like that. I have to be more responsible about my health. It was crazy. It happened so fast. That thing I did, hitting the padding on the wall, I’ve done it so many times. This time it was just a freak accident."

Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving fractures hand in summer league workout
Published: Saturday, July 14, 2012, 10:59 PM Updated: Saturday, July 14, 2012, 11:16 PM
By Mary Schmitt Boyer, The Plain Dealer
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving should be idled for six to eight weeks following surgery to repair a broken bone in his right hand, but should be ready for fall camp.
LAS VEGAS -- Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers' leading scorer last season and the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, suffered a broken bone on the outside of his right hand in a summer-league practice on Saturday afternoon at Spring Valley High School.
He will return to Cleveland on Sunday to be examined by team physicians. He said he needed surgery and is expected to be out six to eight weeks but should be healed in time for the starts of Cavs training camp in late September or early October.
The injury occurred during the first of two practices when Irving hit some padding on the wall after turning the ball over near the end of practice. He shook his hand repeatedly afterward and tried to return to the scrimmage before eventually taking himself out. He left the session with his hand wrapped in ice, went to Spring Valley Hospital and returned for the evening practice with his right hand in a cast.
"It was just a freak accident," Irving said. "I broke a really delicate bone in my hand."
He said there was not enough pain to indicate a serious injury, but when it got hit again during the scrimmage, he knew something was wrong.
Right now, it sounds as if his spirits hurt worse than his hand. He was coming off a stellar performance for the U.S. Select Team in practices against the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team here, and he was an Internet darling after video surfaced of a trash-talked filled exchange with Kobe Bryant regarding a one-on-one matchup for $50,000.
"I'm fine," he said. "I am a little disappointed, a freak accident like that. I have to be more responsible about my health. It was just crazy. It happened so fast.
"That thing that I did -- hitting the pad on the wall -- I've done it so many times. This time was just a freak accident.
"I've done it before. I was like, 'Oh, man. Dang I messed up.' I kept playing and then once I hit it again that's when I knew something was wrong."
Irving, the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft out of Duke, averaged 18.5 points, 5.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game for coach Byron Scott and the Cavs last season. He missed 14 games last season, 10 with a sprained right shoulder, three with a concussion and one when he was ill. He missed most of his only season at Duke with a toe injury on his right foot before returning for the NCAA tournament.
He started the first eight games for the Blue Devils before injuring the toe in the second half of a game against Butler. He returned to play three games in the NCAA tournament, in large part, to convince himself and potential NBA suitors that he was healthy. The long lockout before last season actually allowed him to fully heal.
But he doesn't think the injuries are bad luck.
"I feel like it just happens. Plays just happen. It's uncontrollable. I'll be fine. Hopefully I'll be in shape for Coach Scott's crazy training camp."

On the positive, this is just mid-July. Lots of time for that surgically repaired hand to heal and be rehabbed before the regular season tips off.

Yeah, but that is MUCH less practice time for Kyrie this summer.
Also...
Dwight Howard - C - Magic
Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal writes that there is "nothing to these [Dwight Howard] trade rumors" involving the Cavaliers, Lakers and Magic.
Lloyd is a reputable beat writer and we're pronouncing the time of death for this latest rumor -- the theoretical deal was Dwight to the Lakers, Andrew Bynum to the Cavs, and picks and prospects to the Magic. The teams may have talked about it, but maybe they didn't, and maybe it was a story planted by one source or another for their own ends. At the end of the day it's just another lousy chapter in the Dwight-demands-a-trade debacle.
