"North Greenville University" As distinguished from South Greenville University?
"Freed Hardeman University" lets see, backwards that's Deerf Hardemann, no more likely. Is this in Aruba where Sicnarf is from?

Cleveland, OH—North Greenville center fielder Clark Scolamiero was drafted in the 22nd round by the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, making him the 672nd overall pick.

Scolamiero spent one season in Tigerville, filling a void left in center field. The Greenville, South Carolina native was a First Team All-Conference nod and was first on the team in batting average among players that had at least 150 at bats.

Scolamiero logged a .360 batting average this season and was the team leader in hits (76), runs (63), doubles (14), runs batted in (52) and was 29 of 31 in stolen bases. His RBI and stolen base numbers ranked him top five in Conference Carolinas.

The stress on strike-throwing starters that Bastian highlights is something the team has emphasized in recent years and has resulted in solid pitching from the lower ranks up to Akron by guys like Pannone, Esparza, Hartson. Whether they make it to the big leagues, we'll find out in the next couple years.

I posted Lastoria & Ellis' comments about most of the top 10. Here is the couple I didn't. 7th and 10th round picks. I mentioned the other day that Berardi, the 10th rounder sounded interesting. Ellis seems to agree. But you guys know me, I like the guys who get on base and don't strike out.

Jeff Ellis: Kirk McCarty is like just about every college starter the Indians took a year ago. In other words he showed excelled control and barely walked anyone during his junior year of school. His walk rate was under two with a strikeout rate over nine. He is undersized size at 5’10” and doesn’t throw it hard. I would think the hope is that he moves to the pen and the stuff plays up. He is very much exactly what they have looked at right now which is college pitchers who rarely walk batters.

2017 Cleveland Indians 10th Round Draft Pick: Jesse Berardi, SS from St. Johns University

In the 10th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Cleveland Indians have selected shortstop Jesse Berardi with the 312nd overall pick.

At pick 312 in the 10th round, the Cleveland Indians have selected right-handed pitcher Jesse Berardi out of St. Johns University.

Jeff Ellis: Jesse Berardi might be my favorite pick the Indians made in the first ten rounds. For the second year in a row they allocated funds out without making a single senior selection. Berardi. He slid because he likely shifts to second, doesn't have big tools, and is all of 5’10. What he does best is hit, and also walks at a solid clip. He is an on base guy who is going to have below average power. The overall look is an average defensive second baseman with above average on base skills and below average power. It is a profile of a potential starter. He has a chance to go from 10th round pick to one of the Indians top 20 prospects. I think if one were to average the rankings of the players the Indians selected Berardi would come out with the second highest composite ranking of any player in this class.

This weeks farm report podcast from IBI is pretty interesting. Jeff Ellis is on there with some juicy nuggets about our draftees. It's about an hour long. The sound quality is not great but if you're a patient man there is some good stuff.

Prospects To Watch:

Triston McKenzie, RHP, Lynchburg (Indians): The lithe righthander has dominated the Carolina League all season long. McKenzie, 19, has struck out a league-best 90 hitters in 69.2 innings. He’s done so primarily with a mid-90s fastball and a hammer 12-to-6 curveball. The Indians’ supplemental first-rounder two years ago has also permitted just 38 hits and should be moving to Double-A Akron shortly after the all-star festivities.

Thought the adjective "lithe" was attributed to females rather than males.

Women's bodies would more frequently meet the definition, but thin, graceful guys can too.
