Now that the Indians are in first place, they have been receiving increased attention on the MLB tv network. Much of the talk is about how they need to acquire another bat, and how the attendance should be higher.

another bat sounds logical but we are up among the highest run-scoring teams and perhaps someday Brantley will be back. And of course so will Almonte.

They carried Uribe out on a stretcher after taking a ball to the nuts.
Good excuse for long term DL or out the door.

Urshela's been hitting better although nothing special since he came off the Columbus DL. Yandy Diaz has been backing him up and playing mostly LF and some 2nd base.
Player G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO
Giovanny Urshela 46 175 20 49 9 0 2 23 64 9 25 280/314/366 680 Since June 1: OPS 820
Yandy Diaz 29 103 14 28 7 2 2 11 45 13 22 272/345/437 781 Since June 1: OPS 771

But if we bring one up, I want the best fielding one. Still Urshela?

But we already have a good fielding 3B who isn't hitting.
Uribe!

Should be "formerly" good fielding 3rd baseman. Can't bend over and arm is more and more scattered.

Juan Uribe (testicular contusion) said no BP today. Asked why he doesn't use a cup, he said: "I don't think the trainers have my size." Oh.

August Fagerstrom
Francisco Lindor debuted one year ago today. Since then:
1. Trout, 9.4 WAR
2. Machado, 8.0
3. Donaldson, 8.0
4. Harper, 7.6
5. Lindor, 7.3

Just to put Lindor's 7.3 WAR in perspective ...
August Fagerstrom @AugustFG_
Best single season of career:
Jeter, 7.4 WAR
Smith, 6.7
Larkin, 6.8
Trammell, 7.7
Vizquel, 6.0
(Caught a lot of grief around here over the years cause I always felt Omar was over-rated by Tribe fans)

Wow!
I don't know how they figure "WAR"-- does it have a defensive component?

Oh yes, Civ.
WAR, or "Wins Above Replacement", is one of these new sabermetric analytical stats, designed to show what a players total contribution is to his team. It is supposed to show how many more wins that player gives his team instead of a replacement level player.
But it takes in effect hitting, fielding, base running, (pitching for a pitcher of course)
In fielding they take a players putouts, assists, and errors to produce a "Range Factor".
Then you add the range figure to total number of double plays turned to get the defensive number.
The defensive number is then added to the batting, speed, and other numbers to calculate the WAR.
There are also defensive adjustments they use. For instance a SS will get a +8 due to his position. A LF'er with get a -8.
If you need any further info you may have to search for it cause that's all for me. I don't know a lot about it myself. These new analytical stats are above my head. But some of the guys I follow on Twitter during the season throw these numbers around a lot. They seem to think Lindor is pretty good.

The link J.R. provided will probably have better info. He posted as I was typing. Again, I'm no expert on this new stuff.

Is Lindor getting any love in the All Star vote?
