Trevor Bauer - S - Indians

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers "have engaged in talks recently" with the Indians about a deal for starting pitching.

Grant says that the discussions have revolved around the Rangers sending a reliever to the Indians.

It's unclear which names are involved at this point, although the Tribe just sent Trevor Bauer to the bullpen so he could make some sense. Josh Tomlin might also be a possibility.

Grant notes that the Rangers discussed Shawn Tolleson and Keone Kela with the Diamondbacks earlier this offseason, so perhaps they would be possibilities to move to Cleveland.

Hard to believe they would want a reliever back.

Tolleson was excellent last year, but still.

So...what if the Tribe has a deal in place for Bauer, and that's why they told Anderson and Tomlin they were in the rotation?

Russo of High Heat on MLB-TV picks Indians to win the Central, the playoffs and the Series. Another jinx for the Tribe?

Read a few days ago that the Tribe and BoSox have been talking trade again too. Again surrounding our SP's and they're OF'ers. According to rumor the Tribe wanted Betts, but he is unavailable. BoSox was shopping Bradley or another guy who I was not very familiar. Latino player, I think his name was Castillo or something like that.

I went to Twitter and searched up the rumor, here it is ...

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Cleveland Indians are one of several teams trying to acquire one of the Boston Red Sox's young outfielders. The Indians have reportedly been 'pitching' a trade, but who exactly they are targeting is not clear. Mookie Betts would be the best get, but he is essentially untouchable.

With Mookie Betts likely off the table, that leaves Jackie Bradley Jr. as the most realistic target for the Tribe to go after. Bradley, who has failed to live up to expectations in his first three seasons, played well in his 74 games last season. He slashed .249/.335/.498 with 10 home runs while playing above-average defense.

Another potential target is 28-year-old Rusney Castillo who played in 80 games for the Sox last year and finished with a below-average 72 wRC+. The benefit with Castillo is that he would come significantly cheaper than Bradley Jr. and it may not be worth sending a lot of value away for a center fielder with Bradley Zimmer and Clint Frazier potentially debuting in the coming years.

Even after signing David Price to a massive deal earlier in the offseason, the Red Sox could still use more pitching. Chris Antonetti has been reluctant to deal a pitcher this offseason, but with Opening Day closing in and the outfield situation still looking abysmal, it could be time to pull the trigger, especially if he can wiggle Mookie Betts loose.

If the Indians do not acquire a new outfielder by April 4, they will head into the regular season with Rajai Davis, Marlon Byrd, Collin Cowgill, and Tyler Naquin fighting it out for a mix of playing time in center field.

The two teams talked about a similar trade at this year's Winter Meetings in Boca Raton, Florida. They reportedly met and discussed a potential trade, although nothing came of it.

Paul Hoynes optimistically picks the Indians for 3rd in the Central. Perhaps he has the advantage of actually seeing the team on daily basis

Thanks for looking this up HB.

Umm, did they forget to mention that Castillo makes an absurd amount of money that the Red Sox would LOVE to unload?

Bradley Jr., to me, would be much more what they are looking for. Young, stud defensively in center field. And as the article pointed out he showed some nice signs offensively last season.

Again, just IMO, a Bradley Jr. for Bauer type deal would be in the ballpark for both teams. Tribe gets a very good promising young outfielder and does NOT trade Kluber/Carrasco/Salazar. I have to believe that TYPE of thing is on CA's mind.

To remind, I am not saying do this deal. I am saying this is the type of thing that might interest the team. Young promising outfielder for young promising pitcher (But NOT one of the big 3)

That guy has a long history of being a bozo. I am getting the white flag ready to wave strong and true.

Watch out for the old bait and switch.

Pablo Sandoval lost his 3rd base job to Travis Shaw (Ohio boy).

Tribe has a penchant for overweight, overpaid has beens.

Unless Bauer has had a reaction that warrants a trade, I would leave well enough alone. Barring injuries,Zimmer and/or Frazier should help our OF this or next year. We already have a mini panda at 3B. Urshula is a good replacement.

Yeah, but not ones with 4 years and $74 million left on their contracts.

That mistake makes Bourn/Swisher look like pocket change.

Boston has always been willing to eat a lot of the contracts of players they want to dump.

Dolan officially demoted Chief Wahoo to secondary logo yesterday, and made the Block C the primary logo.

In other news, Dolan can kiss my ass.

Last year, hats & items with Chief Wahoo were the best sellers.

I don't buy any Tribe gear with the chief on it. So maybe it's not just me.

That moron Dolan probably wants to change the name of the team to the Cleveland Block Cs.
