Bradley Zimmer - OF - Indians

Indians outfield prospect Bradley Zimmer will have his left middle finger examined on Thursday.

The finger got clipped by a pitch while Zimmer was trying to lay down a bunt Wednesday at Triple-A Columbus.

Clippers manager Chris Tremie said in a postgame interview that he felt Zimmer would be fine, but the Indians want to make sure there aren't any small fractures or dislocations.

Zimmer, 23, is batting .261/.377/.461 with 15 home runs and 36 stolen bases in 108 games this season between Double-A and Triple-A. He was the 21st overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.

Again, as I posted previously, everyone anticipates he is fine. Manager said so last night. As did the source for my man on Twitter. And the Clippers play by play man says so too, just an hour ago.

Bradley Zimmer is not in the @CLBClippers lineup today, but is expected to be fine.

Tests today just precautionary I'm sure. I guess there is a chance they could find a hairline fracture or something but not expected.

Yandy goes 0-3 with a walk tonight, so his hit streak ends at 28.

Frankie Mejia is out of the lineup against tonight. He's only played once the last 4 or 5 games. Indians are tight lipped about injuries, and tight lipped about disciplinary actions. With Frankie it could be either. He was sat down previously for discipline. He's also been dealing with a sore throwing arm this year too.

Went to mountains this weekend so this is late but Frankie extended his hitting streak to 49 last night!!

So I get an alert on my phone earlier that Frankie's hit streak ended tonight. But then a little later I get another alert that an error got change to hit. Fitty! 50. Might be a cheap one, be interesting to see it later.

No scoring change to help him today. Frankie's streak ends at 50. 4th longest in MiLB history.

During 50 game streak Mejia hit .386 with 8 homers.

Thanks for manning the fort while I've been away, although following the results from way out west. There was a very disappointing post at Baseball America about Mejia's defensive skills despite that best defensive catcher tool rating. I'll find it and post it here. I've been seeing lots of good things from Will Benson after his first couple weeks of zero offense. In August his slash line is 333/429/694. He has power, he steals bases, draws walks. Could be a good one. Nolan Jones has turned to ice in the desert the past couple weeks.

Matt (Va): How will Meija translate as a pro for the Indians?

Kyle Glaser: Hey everybody. We’ll start with this one given Mejia is the story of the minor leagues right now. Short version is, Mejia translates as a high average, everyday starting second or third baseman for the Indians as a pro. HR potential tops out at 8-10 right now, but the bat control is so good we’re talking about a perennial .300 hitter, possibly even a batting title contender in the .320, .330 range as he grows. As promising as he is at the plate, behind the plate it’s a bit of a mess. Blocking, receiving, framing, it’s all well below even adequate. let alone average. One good thing is his arm, which will allow him to transition to third base without an issue. Second is a strong possibility, pending the Indians’ needs at the time.

Now that's he not ours anymore, the BA writer thinks Frazier is the greatest thing since sliced bread, or Mike Trout.

Derek (Boston): At this point, would you rather have Clint Frazier or Willy Adames and Christin Stewart
Kyle Glaser: Frazier. By a wide margin. This guy is a multiple-time All-Star on the verge of breaking in. Adames and Stewart have their gifts, but I really believe Frazier is a franchise cornerstone for many years to come.

Peter (Toronto): Can Anthony Santander be a regular OF in the bigs or is he a 4th outfielder.

Kyle Glaser: Right now a reserve outfielder is more where he projects, but he’s a guy who keeps improving. The jump from HiA to AA is when an offensive prospect really begins to show his true colors, and if he makes that jump successfully we’ll reassess.

Adrian: What kind of prospect status does Bobby Bradley have? Is he just not highly regarded because of his defense? To me he seems to have some of the best power of anyone in the minors and patience at the plate also seems to be very good. Of course his hit tool is lacking and he strikes out a lot.

Kyle Glaser: Bradley was a Top 100 prospect preseason and midseason, so saying he’s not highly-regarded isn’t accurate. Even with his considerable power though, striking out at a 30.6 percent clip against HiA pitching is a huge red flag, (for comparison sake, even Joey Gallo struck out at 26 percent at HiA). The K’s will keep him from elite prospect status until he tamps those down. Everything else with him is secondary right now. He’s got to cut down the K’s

Still don't know why they don't promote Yandy Diaz, or if he's such a terrific 3rd baseman play him more than a day a week at that position. but it's only 2 weeks or so until rosters expand so I am sure we'll him for the stretch drive.

I know there are guys on this forum with more knowledge than me on options and post season eligibility. So help me out.

If they call up Yandy today.

1. he is put on the 40 and use an option (1 of 3) by being called up to the 25.

2. Since he is on the 25, he is eligible for post season play.

If they wait for September roster expansions.

1. he is put on the 40 but does not use up an option.

2. Since he was not on the 25 on Aug 31, he is not eligible for postseason play

Agree, and Tito has talked about the new "stability" for Ramirez settled at 3B now.

The way he is playing, don't want to mess with that.
