Frankie is 0-4 tonight. Streak is in grave danger. Might not get another at bat.

Oh my God! Frankie did get another at bat, and after falling behind 0-2 he fought back to a 2-2 count, fouled several balls off, then doubled down the RF line!

Clippers won 9-7 with two runs in btm of 8th. Zimmer 0-3 w/ a walk. Diaz 1-3 with 2 walks. Urshela 3-5 w/ 2 doubles.

Rubber Duckies lose 7-5. Peoples got hammered, 7 earned runs. Greg Allen went 1-3 with a walk and another homer.

Lynchburg wins 7-3 by scoring 2 in 8th and 2 in 9th. Frankie was 1-5 with that double. Santander hitless again tonight for second night in row. His hot streak is over. Bradley was 2-5 with a double and a homer. Krieger 1-3 and Mathias 2-3.

Captains got hammered 12-3. Jodd Carter with 2 walks.

Scrappers won 4-3 with a 2 run 9th. Gabe Mejia was 2-5 with 2 stolen bases. Any time he gets on its pretty much an automatic double. Calica was 2-4 with a triple. Shane Bieber, who if I remember correctly was our 4th round pick this year, threw 3 scoreless innings, 1 hit and 4 K.

BA's Best Tools - Low A

Best Defensive Catcher - Francisco Mejia

That's it.

I think I missed one name on an earlier list. Marimando was voted as having best changeup in AA Best Tools list.

The Indians’ catcher has hit safely in 44 consecutive games in a streak that began in late May in the Midwest League and that has continued through a promotion to the high Class A Carolina League.

LONGEST HIT STREAKS, PRO BASEBALL

69 Joe Wilhoit (Western), 1919
61 Joe DiMaggio (Pacific Coast), 1933
56 Joe DiMaggio (American), 1941
55 Roman Mejias (Big State), 1954
50 Otto Pahlman (Three-I League), 1922
49 Jack Ness (Pacific Coast), 1915

44 Francisco Mejia (Midwest/Carolina), 2015
44 Pete Rose (National), 1978

Bolded entries are from Major League Baseball

That puts him one game short of James McOwen’s 45-game hit streak in the California League in 2009 for the longest minor league hit streak of the modern era of minor league baseball, which was reclassified in 1963.

Mejia’s streak will also crack the top 10 hit streaks in organized baseball history if he can get a hit tonight at home against Potomac.

Wichita’s Joe Wilhoit (Western League) holds the all-time minor league record with 69 games in 1919. Joe DiMaggio actually holds two of the three longest hit streaks in pro baseball history. In addition to his 56-game MLB record set in 1941, he also has the second-longest minor league streak with a 61-game hit streak in the Pacific Coast League in 1933.

Mejia’s streak is even more impressive in that it has continued this week even after he prepared to switch teams only to find that he was still a Cleveland Indian after Jonathan Lucroy turned down a trade to Cleveland.

Mejia is considered one of the better catching prospects in the minors right now. He ranked 70th on Baseball America’s Midseason Top 100 Prospects list.
So did Mejia have another 44 game streak last year, too, or should that say 2016?

No, that's a typo. He didn't hit that well last year.

That's what I figured. We would have heard about it last year.
MLB tv just mentioned this year's streak.
Then asked, "What's your favorite streak?"

Well, it's modest in comparison, but Yandy Diaz homered in his first at bat tonight to extend his hitting streak to 24 games.

Just got done chatting w/ someone close to Yandy Diaz. Hoping he would get a shot right after trade deadline. Diaz not to be promoted soon.

same source told me Indians had approached him in early July saying they just wanted him to work on OF a little more & was close.

He is not happy & doesn't know what else they want him to do. Says source.

If #Indians didn't acquire Guyer, almost certain Yandy would be up as Right Handed platoon OF bat & shared time at 3rd with Ramirez.
