So the Indians now sign a cheap geazer in certainly a look good signing ( I would never sign anyone over 30 in the post steroid era). Maybe they can trade him and get a C level prospect for him in July when some real team needs a pinch hitter type. It is is amazing how this team has morfed into the Indians of the 70's. At least now the owner is makiing boatloads of money.

The "cheap geezer" our friend refers to:

Mike Napoli - 1B - Rangers

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Indians have signed Mike Napoli to a one-year contract, pending a physical.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports the deal is worth $7 million, with $3 million in additional incentives. Napoli, 34, had a .734 OPS with 18 home runs and 50 RBI in 133 games this past season between the Red Sox and Rangers.

He could handle first base duties and shift Carlos Santana to the DH spot.

I admit I am disappointed to not land Frazier, but I also understand (duh) the reluctance to part with our starters.

Moving on, Napoli is a career long crusher of lefty pitching. It's an obvious role that needed filling.

As the guys keep pointing out on MLB network, remember it is only December. So right now I see the logic in the small moves they are making.

Remains to be seen what it adds up to leading up to spring training, which regrettably is a long way off.

Love the 734 0PS. Guess the Princeton fellow who is now our GM doesnt believe in analytics. That idiot Cruz is also a graduate of Old Nassau. I never had a good feeling about Princetonians or their fancy Lake Carnegie. I guess Woodrow Wilson was a rascist.

Sounds like the Reds got a nice care package for Frasier. Now I dont know anything about Frasier as I dont really follow baseball anymore but it seems like the Indians can be compared to Obama. They are afraid to do anything ie dump a b level prospect for a player for fear the player is a stiff or becomes too expensive. This organizational paralysis is how we as a nation under Obama execute or dont execute foreign policy. We are paralyzed by fear of making a mistake into bigger blunders. Of course under Shapiro and Wedgieee we did make some big ones see Phillips, Bandon.

The Indians have reached agreement on a deal with Rajai Davis, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). It’s a one-year deal, according to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation (on Twitter). The pact is believed to be worth $5.25MM plus incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Rajai Davis (vertical)

Davis, 35, has spent the past two seasons in the AL Central, appearing in 246 games and receiving 864 total plate appearances for the division-rival Tigers. With Detroit, the fleet-footed Davis batted a combined .272/.314/.418 with 16 home runs and 54 stolen bases. Over the course of his career, Davis has been a far more productive bat against left-handed pitching, posting a cumulative .296/.351/.448 triple-slash in parts of 10 Major League seasons.

From a defensive standpoint, Davis has had inconsistent marks throughout his career but is capable of manning all three outfield positions. He has at least 700 innings at all three spots, though the bulk of that time has come in left field and center field. Davis’ collective body of work in center field has received slightly above-average reviews from Ultimate Zone Rating and Defensive Runs Saved, while he’s been below average in left field. Having turned 35 in October, it’s possible he’s slowing down a bit, as last season’s 18 stolen bases were the lowest mark of his career.

Cleveland has been in need of outfield depth, particularly with Michael Brantley likely to miss the start of the season. Davis now joins an outfield depth chart that includes Collin Cowgill, Abraham Almonte and Lonnie Chisenhall.

The Twins and Rangers were also said to have had interest in Davis before he landed in Cleveland.

From Hoynes ...

Why didn't the Tribe get Frazier from the Reds? Initially the Reds wanted starter Danny Salazar or closer Cody Allen. The Tribe said no and negotiations turned to prospects.

Cincinnati never said, "we've got a deal,' but they wanted Bradley Zimmer or Clint Frazier to be in any deal that was made. They also wanted two other players from a group including Bobby Bradley, Justus Sheffield, Mike Clevinger or Juan Hillman. The Indians tried to make it a three-team deal, but couldn't get the right players lined up.

...

Pass the physical: Napoli signed a three-year $36 million free agent contract with Boston after the 2012 season. During his physical, the Red Sox discovered that he was suffering from avascular necrosis of both hips. The Red Sox scrapped the deal and eventually signed Napoli to a one-year $5 million deal.

The hip condition ended Napoli's career as a catcher, but after helping the Red Sox win the World Series in 2013, they signed him to a two-year $32 million deal. Last season Napoli played first and left field. Those close to him say he's 100 percent.

Napoli's physical with the Indians is Friday in Cleveland.
