As good a day as it is for guys getting promoted, it's a sad day for those being told they're not good enough.

Releases are happening as drafted guy are signed and other players are promoted.

Kids, with dreams of playing professional baseball, hit the wall with a thud and have to come to grips with reality.

Read a lot about promotions but not much about releases.

I have to assume that reality gradually sets in for players like Myles not just because younger guys pass them by but because their own results are not satisfactory. But players rarely step away voluntarily even when their future is pretty much sealed. They certainly are not doing it for the money; and sometimes you see these players reappear in the Independent League and hang on for another few years.
I suppose some expect that their big break is just around the corner, but if I hit .250 in AA it's hart to forecast that I'll make to the promised land of the Show.

I knew as soon as I posted that I jinxed him. McKenzie gives up a hit in 4th, but leaves him stranded.

There's something special going on in another minor league game but I won't mention it. Learned my lesson finally.

Peoples had a no hitter going but got it broke up in 5th. Greg Allen went 1-5 in his AA debut. Feyereisen gave up a run in 10th for the loss. 2-1. Ducks may struggle to find offense with all their players in Columbus now.

Hillcats lose 6-2 but Frankie Mejia extends hit streak to 38 games.

Lake County wins 6-2. Lukes 2-5 with a double and triple. Marabell 3-5 with 2 doubles.

Scrappers win first game 3-2. I posted McKenzie line earlier, nice game. Gabe Mejia and Calica each with a hit, and Calica with a SB. Scrappers are blowing them out in game 2, 7-0 right now. Mejia with another hit, and Calica is 3-4 so far. Still a couple innings to go.

Triston McKenzie, rhp, Indians. The Brooklyn-born teenager—he turns 19 on Aug. 2—continued his dominant season on Monday. McKenzie, a supplemental first-rounder in 2015, allowed just three hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings against short-season Connecticut (Tigers) in a 3-2 win for Mahoning Valley. McKenzie is 4-2, 0.61 with 47 strikeouts and just 28 hits allowed in 44 innings. The 6-foot-5, 165-pounder is dominating young hitters [young yes, but older than him -- he's one of the few 18 year olds in the NYPL with his advanced pitchability and plus fastball-curveball combination.

Frankie Mejia gets two hits tonight to extend his hitting streak to 39 games. Amazing. Civ's buddy, Yu-Cheng I got some Chang in my pocket going ding aling aling, homered tonight.

Dorssys Paulino played in LF again & hit safely twice, safe on error once. Stole a base & went from 2B to 3B on a fly to LF. Running well.

Civ: You know you don't actually have to tweet. You could start a twitter account and follow some of the accounts I mentioned. Just pop in to Twitter once or twice a day and read what others are tweeting about the minor leaguers. You get little comments like those above that you don't see in the boxscores. Videos of walk off homers. Stuff like that. I think you would like it.
