I certainly would have been upset with our play the last 4 games. We seem tired.

Why didnt Kipnis play today with a RH pitcher?

I think Asdrubal could use a little more rest. Play Kipnis at 2B and let Cabrera play SS once in awhile. He is probably a liability at SS for the super plays but should make the standard ones.

My problem with BJ Upton is whenever I watched a Tampa game, he seemed to whiff a lot.

Out of town a couple days, didn't see or hear the games. But just thinking about this team. They've done a lot better than I could possibly have expected. Asdrubal and Masterson have developed into really top notch players. Brantley looks like a keeper. Carrasco is coming along nicely. Fine bullpen. But there's no way that they can win this divsion this year unless they get really lucky (Verlander gets his hand caught in car door) (Mauer back on the DL) (Ozzie goes ballistic one time too many). There's just not nearly enough depth. The Powers That Be have been aggressive with minor league promotions and it will interesting to see if they are willing to trade for someone with talent. But I just don't see how they win this thing without Choo, without Santana at the level we anticipated, with two or three starters in their first full major league season and without Carmona regaining his 2007 status. That's just too many deficits to overcome, but it's been a good 100 games and I hope that they can avoid slipping all the way to 4th.

Bad day today by one guy.

We're going to get to August in a pennant race.

I'm super happy to be watching The Tribe in 2nd place and within two as the dog days of August approach.

THIS has not happened often, in my lifetime.

That said, I AM clocking Antonetti and Shapiro in the next several days to see their attempts to help us now that we are here.

If OC is truly a cancer on the club, than Acta should either read him the riot act or make sure OC is on his way out of town. Should Manny not be able to handle such a situation, he has no business being a manager of a lemonade stand, much less a MLB club.

O Cabrera is not a cancer in its truest sense. O Cabrera is the straw that stirs the drink for the Indians. He is the guy that most of the young players look up to. This dynamic was known and was one of the reasons the Tribe signed him.

Almost every playoff team has a weak position that may be the glue of the team without the stats to back it up.

Bottom line is that Orlando Cabrera and Manny Acta both believe that the Indians would not be where they are without Orlando Cabrera.

Orlando may not say anything about Kipnis but it still makes for an uncomfortable situation in the clubhouse between O Cab's admirers and Kipnis.

We already have seen a situation where Kipnis should have been playing yesterday against a RH pitcher. Obviously Acta thought that O Cab gave them a better chance then Kipnis yesterday.

OC brings his resume of being on playoff teams.

He has made positive contributions on the field to help win games.

He seems to have had a good effect on AC, maybe others.

All to the good.

But anyone with an ounce of baseball knowledge can see that his best role is as a utility player, a couple games a week guy.

If the other Tribe players would rather see their buddy/hero/whatever in the lineup instead of the best talent, than they are immature and have their heads screwed on backward.

OC went into the game yesterday 7 for 21 lifetime vs Jackson. So there's the logic for him in the lineup. Acta is showing us he is very much a fan of managing by 'The Book'.

Why bring Kipnis up if you are scared to play him? He had good numbers vs lefties in the minors this year. Shouldn't one of your top prospects be given every opportunity to play?

Acta is proving very umimpressive under the pressure of a pennant race and injury adversity.

So if we're 51-48 now, and our record after a win on May 23 was 30-15, that means 21-33 since. That's a pretty long stretch (1/3 of the season) with a last place record. Is there some reason to think we'll ready to turn that record around the rest of the way? Another 21-33 will put as at 72-81 with a final week to play spoiler against the White Sox, Twins and Tigers. Should be exciting.
