I've already heard four or five announcers reference Wide World Sports.... "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat".....with regard to Hildebrand hitting the wall as he approached the finish line solidly in the lead.

JR, it didn't click for me which commercial you were talking about. I've been watching the Indy 500 and NASCAR today and now....oh yes, I agree with you.

Weather Service is calling for a possible 10-15" of new snow accumulation in the mountains here thru Monday night.

Snow pack in the local ranges is already 100% above normal.

From Tuesday thru next Sunday, daytime highs are predicted to be around 70.

We are in for some flooding.

They are worried about same in The Gold Country and Central Valley of California. Roads and trails that are normally open every year at this time still have up to 10 feet of snow blocking.

The other thing to expect here is more contact between grizzly bears and people.

People usually lose.

We have a bumper crop of rattle snakes on the trails around The Bay right now. Something about a prolific ground rodent population at the normal time of snake mating season.

The stories are that most people are encountering an average of two rattlesnakes per hike around Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Diablo, Ohlone, Santa Cruz mountains, etc.

I know it kept my wife and I from a hike today.

It was a great day for auto racing and drama.

The rookie went into the wall trying to pass lapped traffic when he was solidly in the lead of the Indy 500 with the finish line in sight.

The crowd at Charlotte was going wild as Dale Earnhardt, Jr. had a huge lead within sniffing distance of the finish line in the Coca Cola 600, but then he ran out of fuel and coasted to the finish in 7th.

The kid who went with me on the "hot lap" at Infineon in a stock Camry a few years back ended up with a very nice Top 5 in Charlotte. A.J. Allmendinger. I'm very happy about that.

Oh, yes.

Cars were dropping like flies on gas issues today. There were at least 13 cautions that made the teams have to guess and gamble on fuel, tires and track position. Jeff Gordon's team guessed wrong. Dale Jr's team gambled wrong. Dale did end up with a Top Ten which is still beneficial in the point standings.

Dale Jr. drove a real nice race.
