Two more stellar starts in Class A on Saturday by Lefties Shawm Morimando for Carolina (Joe's breakout pick) and Luis Lugo in Lake County (my pick).

Morimando 6-1-0-0-1-6
Lugo 5-3-1-1-0-7

Here are the Saturday boxes:

Also noteworthy:
Aguillar single, 12th double, 11th homer 4 rbi
Roberto Perez 6th homer, 2 walks

D'vone McClure 2 walks, that makes 5 in 2 games and matches last year's season total
Francisco Mejia 1-4

Clint Frazier 0-5 with 3K. Dorsyss Paulino 3 singles, still homerless.

Jose Ramirez has been missing from the lineup the past three games. According to the Dispatch, he tweeked a hammy. I did a further search and back in March, he tweeked the same hamstring while working out on a stationry bike. Not making any excuses, but it may explain his poor stolen base percentage. The organization is also teaching him reading techniques. I hope the instructions are not affecting his base stealing instincts.

Civ,

Do you have a link to minor league, individual, fielding statistics?

Zach McAllister ended his brief visit to Huntington Park last night by pounding his fist into his glove and shouting after he worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fourth inning against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. McAllister, a right-hander for the Cleveland Indians, was making his second injury rehabilitation start for the Clippers with an eye on rejoining the Tribe’s rotation next week. McAllister left with a four-run lead in what turned into a 7-0 victory for the Clippers.

Sunday box scores:

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.js ... d=20140615

of note:

3 excellent defensive players with good offensive games for Columbus:
3B Urshela 3 singles
C Roberto Perez 5th homer, batting 322
RF Carlos Moncrief single, 7th homer, 3 rbi. In June: 311/380/644 4 of his homeruns

Good work by Danny Salazar: 5-4-2-2-1-4
Bad work by Cody Anderson in Akron: 4 2/3-3-3-3-6-3 2 homers 4.92. Fading way back on our prospect list.
Good work by DJBrown for Carolina: 5-1-0-0-0-4. Never seen him rated as a prospect.
Longest outing by the New Improved Mitch Brown: 6-5-2-2-2--5. He's still winless at 0-6 4.42, but his last half dozen starts have been good although command can certainly improve more: 30-24-10-10-15-27 3.00.
Awful NYPL debut by 2012 3rd rounder Kieran Lovegrove (1 round after Brown) 1 2/3-5-6-6-1-0.
Better NYPL debut by Dominican RH Edward Estrella (that means Edward the Star) 2 1/3-0-0-0-1-1. He starred in DSL last two summers with ERAs of 1.85 and 2.86.

Some offensive numbers:

Luigi Rodriguez 2 hits in Carolina.
Clint Frazier 4th homer for Lake County
Eric Haase single and double for Lake County. Catcher repeating this level has a 545 slugging average for the year

Mitch Brown tried Midwest League in 2013 and failed miserably: 11.49 ERA in 5 games. Then went down with a biceps injury. BA dropped him from 5th to 24th in their Indians Top 30 as a result. Problem was mostly throwing strikes with the fastball which he threw several mph slower to try to get it over the plate and "couldn't get to his secondary stuff" Still said his curveball has plus potential. shows feel for using his changeup and features a promising slider/cutter hybrid.

This year his totals are 65 innings, 61 hits, 3 homers (4 last year in 16 innings) 37 walks 51 strikeouts; and as noted above much better in his recent outings.

2014 MLB Draft: June 16th signing update

I am back in the saddle today after spending the last three and a half days at a state baseball tournament in Columbus. With that in mind, I am going to use this update to get all caught up on the news from over the weekend as the Indians officially inked a few players, agreed to terms with several more and got official word from some others that they are not signing - not to mention there is all kinds of other news surrounding unsigned picks.

I will continue to post these signing updates on a daily basis on things I see and hear, though as we get further away from the draft and players officially sign or decline to sign, the updates will become much less frequent.

Note, on Friday the Indians announced that they officially signed three draft picks: 6th round pick outfielder Gregory Allen, 9th round pick shortstop Alexis Pantoja and 31st round pick right-handed pitcher Dominic DeMasi.

- 1st round pick outfielder Bradley Zimmer is going to sign, it is just a matter of when. Nothing has come out of either camp as to when he is expected to sign, but with the Indians returning home today (Monday) and he and another top pick Justus Sheffield in town the next two days, I think it is pretty safe to say that Zimmer will be signing in the next day or so.

- 1st round competitive balance pick outfielder/first baseman Mike Papi is still playing in the College World Series so is not close to signing with the Indians. His Virginia team opened play in the College World Series on Sunday night versus Ole Miss and won in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the ninth with a walkoff two-out hit from Papi to plate the winning run. Papi went 2-for-4 with a walk in the game.

- 3rd round pick first baseman Bobby Bradley has agreed to terms with the Indians but no deal has yet to be officially announced. He could be another player set to arrive in Cleveland today to get a tour of the Progressive Field facility, workout with the team and attend a few games before finally putting pen to paper and taking his physical and then shipping off to Arizona later in the week.

- 4th round pick left-handed pitcher Sam Hentges’ high school season will wrap up today as his team plays in the Minnesota Class 3A state championship game today at 6pm ET at Target Field. Once his high school season ends negotations with the Indians are expected to heat up quickly - though the parameters of a deal are in place.

- 11th round pick right-handed pitcher Jared Robinson has been signed. He will likely be sent to Arizona to get acclimated and be built up before he pitches in some games and could find his way to short season Single-A Mahoning Valley later in the year.

- 12th round pick right-handed pitcher Jordan Dunatov has signed with the Indians. Nothing has been officially released about the signing from the team, but he has signed and is in Arizona.

- 19th round pick right-handed pitcher Argenis Angulo appears to have agreed to terms with the Indians and been assigned to Arizona, at least according to a tweet he made on Sunday. I am in the process of confirming.

- 21st round pick outfielder Bobby Ison has told me he has agreed to terms with the Indians. While details of his bonus were not shared, he says he will officially sign in the next few days. He is expected to start his career in Arizona.

- 23rd round pick outfielder David Amendariz has signed with the Indians and will begin his career in Arizona.

- 32nd round pick left-handed pitcher Jared West has opted not to sign and has instead officially transferred from the University of Houston to LSU Shreveport. This was a longshot for the Indians as he would command a good chunk of money to sign, something the Indians just won’t have since he is a post-bonus round pick and they likely won’t have anything left over from their pool to sign any picks to much over $100K, if that.

- 34th round pick infielder Cody Callaway may be having some thoughts of signing with the Indians. He was scheduled to participate and play in the inaugural Ohio-Michigan Border Classic All-Star football game on Saturday but he skipped the game. According to Ohio coach Mike Fell, his being drafted by the Indians had something to do with it but he would not elaborate any further on that. Callaway is set to report to Bowling Green on June 28th to begin his college career where he will play both baseball and football there. The fact he skipped the game does not mean he is signing, but it could mean he and the Indians are discussing a deal and that discussions are far enough along where the Indians asked he not play in the game (mere speculation and an educated guess on my part there).

- 38th round pick outfielder Cody Jones is another Indians player participating in the College World Series. His TCU team won their opener on Sunday against Texas Tech, 3-2. TCU will play Virginia on Tuesday at 8pm ET on ESPN – a game with two Tribe draft picks in both dugouts.

Only 3 total errors for Jose Ramirez this season. That has to be the best numbers in the entire organization for games/innings played.

I've been watching a bunch of minor league games and couldn't remember the last time Ramirez made an error.

Not bad!

Virginia celebrates after Mike Papi (No. 38) hit a walk-off double against Ole Miss. (Ted Kirk/AP)

Virginia delivers first CWS walk-off in three years

OMAHA, Neb. --

A day full of dominant starting pitching performances ended with the first walk-off at the College World Series in three years.

Virginia first baseman Mike Papi crushed Aaron Greenwood's two-out, full-count offering deep into the right-center-field gap for a double to give the Cavaliers a 2-1 win over Ole Miss on Sunday at TD Ameritrade Park.

"Every walk-off is awesome. It's speechless. You don't know what to say," said Papi, the 38th overall pick by the Indians in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft. "But having it done in the College World Series makes it even that much better."

The walk-off was the first in College World Series action since June 24, 2011, and came off the bat of a hitter who earlier in the game was intentionally walked.

That instance, in the sixth inning, led to an RBI single by Virginia's Joe McCarthy -- the cleanup hitter behind Papi.

"It's not like you feel a little uncomfortable just pitching around him and walking him to get to McCarthy. We did that last time," said Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco, noting McCarthy and left fielder Derek Fisher. "So it's three guys. Not the place that you want to be with the winning run at second base."
