To think that my last ride on the river last year was one of avoiding low spots and tugging my kayak behind me with a nylon rope most of the trip. The river bed had weeds growing that were at least 12" high. We were in the midst of a drought. We were under red conditions most of the summer. We were still under drought conditions prior to this rainfall. We didn't have enough snow to help the situation any. No camp fires all last summer because all the vegetation was so dry.
With the rainfall yesterday and this morning, I don't think they will have to worry much about drought in northern Illinois for quite a while. I don't know how much more we can take though. Another thunderstorm just rolled through. It only lasted for about an hour, but the rain was pretty heavy. By tomorrow, I'm almost positive the the total accumlation will be very close to 7".
I don't know how you folks down Cleveland way escaped this mess.
At least the Mississippi should recover nicely. Two branches of the Kishwaukee, one out of DeKalb and one out of Crystal Lake join together form one near the campground. The Kishwaukee dumps into the Rock River and the Rock feeds the Mississippi. The whole state got a good soaking. The Mississippi should reap the benefits. Badly needed benefits.
“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is.”
