Geez, I guess
Rusty was enthralled by too many episodes of Lenny and Squiggy on
Laverne and Shirley?

Before the Joe-Rusty show resumed, I noted Austin Kearns on that FA list: a RH hitting LF. Could be a perfect fit for the Tribe.

REPORT: Terry Francona To Manage Cleveland Indians

Weeks after firing manager Manny Acta, the Cleveland Indians have found the man. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Indians will introduce Terry Francona as their new manager at a press conference on Monday.

Francona has spent the last year as an analyst on Baseball Tonight after a tumultuous end to his run as manager of the Boston Red Sox. The Indians themselves are n the midst of turmoil as they couldn’t be further from the team they were this time last year. Despite missing the playoffs the last two years, the Indians were in great shape to make the postseason last year before collapsing.
Adding Francona, a guy who helped lead the Red Sox away from their epic collapses and to two World Series titles, seems to be the guy the Indians think will take their young and talented team to the next level.
Francona stated on last night’s broadcast of Baseball Tonight that his two options for next season were either to return to the highlight show or manage the Indians. Francona interviewed for the job not long after Acta was fired, and it now appears a decision has been made about the future of Francona. The question now is, much like the Cubs are hoping from Theo Epstien, can Francona recapture the Red Sox magic with the Indians and bring a world championship to the city of Cleveland?

Well that's one step in the right direction, now if we can only get some some actual Major League talent ballplayers in the club, maybe we'll be above .500 at the end of the season.

The club will make a formal announcement on Monday morning at Progressive Field, but no further details or comments will be made available until that time out of respect for MLB protocol involving announcements during the Postseason.

For those that wanted a new voice in charge of the Indians you now have it. The manager makes almost all personnel (40 man) and coaching decisions. Shapiro has always set up his organization that way.
Francona is a great addition for teaching young players and will help attract fringe free agents that would otherwise have no interest in Cleveland.
Great hire. Got it done quick and I would assume that Alomar will still be on the staff if he does not get a managers job elsewhere. (Kind of doubt it)

Alomar will put in for every job out there, just like last year. If he can't find a job, the Indians will find a spot for him, just like last year.

I am just hoping that we are not commiting over 4M to Francona and not for too long a period.
After all we need a RH power bat and a starter much more.
If he does not help us out surely Dolan will shake up the front office.
Interesting stats: In the last 2 years we were in first place more days than any other team in the Central.
WSJ has chosen our own Casey Kotchman as LVP (least valuable player), of course they are referring to his hitting, his fielding did help us some.

There is talk the Big Pappy Ortiz may come to the Tribe with Francona.
Another DH who is left handed.
I wanted him badly when he was much younger and I saw him many times in ST with the Twins.

Ortiz's decline is evidenced by the following:
2010 OPS 899 145 games
2011 OPS 953 146 games
2012 OPS 1026 90 games
Remind me what his injury was this year... Otherwise I'd take him over the guy we've overpaid for years as DH. Hafner hasn't had an OPS over 837 since 2006
