CALI/FLA: Kudos on an extremely well-researched and clearly laid out post. I wonder what the reason for this is. Do the people who do the hiring avoid those with MLB playing experience, or is it the other way around?

The Indians have had ex ballplayers as special advisers to the general manager for years and years.

Hargrove, Francona, Bud Black, John Farrell, etc.

It must be asked does Rusty work for Dolan or does he just choose to live in a different reality than the rest of us. He is like one of the commissars during the last days of the USSR still sticking to his tired line that the West is evil and the workers of the world will triumph over the capitalists while the party elite drink vodka and bring in dancing girls behind the curtain.

Coaches must be teachers first. Just having MLB playing experience doesn't mean you can teach what you've learned.

Scouts must have the ability to project players ceilings years away. Maybe MLB playing experience helps recognize what it takes to be a MLB player but not necessarily.

If Manager of the team has extesnsive MLB playing experience, he probably has the initial respect of his players. That initial respect can quickly dissipate when he proves to be incompetent.

The General Manager must be able to identify and acquire MLB level talent within a budget. Don't know what MLB playing experience has to do with it.

The President has to be able to price hot dogs and schedule Snow days. No MLB experience required.

The CEO....we'll I don't know what he does except report to daddy.

Seagull, absolutely agreed. But if your numbers guys keep shooting blanks like ours have been, it doesn't hurt to go get a little MLB experience.

More that the "one and dones" of the Buck Showalters et al. Does anyone really know what those guys do to contribute? Can they veto the draft moves? Do they even get involved to that degree?

Thanks, J.R.. But that info was easily obtained in just a few minutes. Every MLB team is listed here, and it just takes a click on "roster" then "front office" or "coaches" to see who they have.

For folks who have followed baseball, it's easy to glance and see who had MLB time. For any who were in doubt, a quick search at baseballreference.com gave the answer. I had to look up Tom Foley, but that was about the only one.

The odd thing is that for most of the teams there are bios linked to the front office names. For our guys, all the links are dead.

I liked this snippet from Dick Tidrow's bio, and Tidrow of course is a former Cleveland Indian:

I guess my post didn't read the way I expected it to read. I wasn't asking which members are using the Ignore feature. To tell the truth, I really don't care. I just think that people who call other members names should look in the mirror.

Nah joez I'm just trying to hold back the tears. Not all of my attempts at humor succeed. But I do chat online other places where the ignore feature is necessary for the maintenance of sanity.
