If you look at the Indians perspective in a rational manner the only thing one can conclude is that Forbes is correct and the Indians are making money. Why else would Dolan say the team is not for sale and he plans no changes to the brain trust or even the manager? He is laughing at you Dolanites. He must be upset because the official payroll reads 73million even though he is paying no where close to that as the Braves are paying most of Lowe's contract. He therefore doesnt get the revenue sharing dollars that come with having a nice neat low payroll. When does the big winter cruise start and the maybe the big signing of John Lowenstein.

Hate to say it sea, but I agree with you MORONS pretty much sums but the Tribe's front office. Only they could completely blow TWO Cy Young trades after building a decent nucleus with some great under the radar trades.....

I say blow it up. Trade Choo, Perez, Jimenez (don't tell me no one will take him they surely will for $4M) and start over.....

I've still yet to hear of the alternate deal that could have been had for C.C. The two sides have to agree. Do you think holding onto him for another 2.5 months and screwing up the compensation pick really would have been a better choice? Or do you really know of a better return that was in fact actually offered?

I can't really remember the rumors that were around at the time (it's been 4 years), but I do recall that they dealt Sabathia fairly early in the process--about two weeks before the All-Star break--on the grounds that what the Brewers were offering was too much to turn down, and likely to be better than any offer we might have received had we waited.

Look at it this way: the Chuck Finley trade earlier in the decade ended up netting us Coco Crisp. Finley was still a useful pitcher in 2002, but was clearly near the end of the line. Sabathia was the defending Cy Young Award winner and a certifiable ace, and his trade ended up netting us ... Michael Brantley, who is basically Crisp with half the homers (Crisp's best season came at age 25, the same age Brantley is now; he hit .300 for the Indians with 16 homers).

It's hard to believe there would have been no possible deal out there better than the one we ended up taking from Milwaukee.

Maybe if Brantley was on steroids like brittle Crisp was then he would hit more home runs.

Instead of guessing what the Indians could have gotten different for CC maybe you should compare what the Twins got for Santana (2 Cy Youngs) from the Mets . Compare that to the CC or Lee trade.

Of course the Twins are a much better organization I hear though. They are doing great things with their new ball park, bigger payroll and contracts with Mauer and Morneau.

A little early but we might want to compare what the Royals got for Zack Greinke (Cy Young)too.

In February 2008, Santana was traded from the Twins to the New York Mets for Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey.

How many years were left on his contract?

Santana was traded in February of 2008 and the 2008 season was his final year of his contract. Same situation as CC.

The Mets gave him a 7 year contract that same month which they have regretted for most of those seasons so far.


On July 7, 2008, Sabathia was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Matt LaPorta, Michael Brantley, Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson.

Just in case some here do not get the mlb.com emails, this is still good for tomorrow. Maybe if you're in McDocs backyard, he'll cut a deal in honor of The Tribe ending the 9 game losing streak.....

By the way, we looking forward to acting young with you and yours at the wine bar on Wednesday as it seems with the storm track now Tony should be good to go providing the power comes back quickly. He has the tastings on Wednesday going with some consistency now, it seems. Our youngest daughter and her boyfriend are about 80% sure they will be able to drop in for a bit while we are there.

We host Oakland that night, and if we feel the urge to monitor the game I'll have the iPhone.

Of course your usual drunken Shapiro pettiness did not allow you to remember that Crisp was acquired from the Cardinals.

Not the same situation as C.C. Milwaukee got less than half a season of C.C. and apparently the Santana deal was contingent (though some rules may have been stretched) on the Mets being able to work out a contract extension.

No matter which deal you think is "better," the two circumstances are hardly comparable.
