Listening last nights game. And wondered out loud, "Why are they pitching to Stanton"? For a manager who overused his bullpen and matching up so much, why? That was the turning point of the game and
quite possibly the series. He left Bibee in one batter too long, but that one I can live with.
Murderers' Row. SOTO, JUDGE AND Stanton. How did this Yankee team not go 159-3?

Because Stanton did not hit like this during the season. If he continues this then those 3 sluggers are going to be one tough crew to deal with.

In addition the Yankees had the starting pitching that we did not have. And JRam/Naylor pressed themselves into being ineffective.

Hey - this team did far more then any of us or anyone had a right to predict or expect. Great, entertaining season but they were out-manned in the end.

Thomas is signed for next year.

Can Thomas be signed: when the trade was made I think they said he was under contract through next season . Here's what I found:

After 2025: Can become a free agent after the 2025 World Series

What is up with Giminez? Amazing defender. He saved another run yesterday with marvelous throw to the plate. I'd probably stick with him even with his unimpressive offense. But only room for one super--defender subpar hitter. And then we have Brito and Bazzena right on his heels who project to be solid hitters.

Don't watch the games any more. My nerves can't take it. My hands shake, my heart pounds in my chest. Having AFIB, I'm afraid I might have a stroke or a heart attack.

To Rusty's point, Noel could have saved the season. Unfortunately, some really bizarre moments from games 4 & 5 stopped us in our tracks.

First of all, Cade Smith and Emmanuel Clase picked a fine time to have a meltdown. Our two most effective relief pitchers just did not rise to the occasion in game 4. Admittedly, that Yankee lineup is relentless. Not a weak spot in the lineup. Fatigue! The relief corps was task with winning games all season long. Hard to argue with the results, tired or not. Vogt managed this season exceptionally well. Credit Vogt with getting us through the final 5 games of the season. So close, yet so far.

We had the win and let it slip away.

That brings us to game 5. Rocchio and Gimenez, magicians, a dynamic duo covering the middle of our infield, committed the most costly error of the season. They were playing exceptionally well the whole season .They were exceptional against the Tigers. They were exceptional against the Yankees. One mistake ends the season .

A second win so close and yet so far.

Let's face it. This is Cleveland. As fans, we should be used to it. Almost expect it. Doesn't stop the hurt though. It always hurts. Hurts really bad.

I predicted that we would win this series in 7 games. I expected to take one game in New York. I was hoping we would beat Rodon in game 1.

I thought we would take 2 of 3 at home. We should have won games 2 & 3, Should'a, Could'a, Would'a!

Taking either one of games 6 & 7 in New York was not out of the question.

This team is resilient and I really expected that this team, this manager, would be up to the task at hand. I thought we would take down the mighty Yankees. I really do not like the Yankees. They feel like a thorn in my butt.

Let's face it. This was an incredible season. We got help from the players we expected to get it from. We got help from the players we did not expect it from. Players that stepped up and contributed. We had a rookie manager who stepped up big time. Managed against all odds.

The Guardians gave me a season to remember right up there with the Indian teams of the 90's.

Some super pitching in the series.

In the first 4 games of the series, Feller, Lemon, Beardon, and Gromek all had complete games.

Feller lost to Sain 1-0 in the first game. Braves scored 1 run in the 8th. Sain went the distance.
Feller only gave up 2 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.

In the opening game of the World Series, the Boston Braves beat Bob Feller and the Cleveland Indians, 1 – 0, with only two hits and the benefit of a disputed call on a pick-off attempt in the 8th inning by Feller. Feller walked Braves catcher Bill Salkeld to open the inning. Braves manager, Billy Southworth then replaced the slow-footed Salkeld with Phil Masi, who entered the game as a pinch runner. Mike McCormick followed with a sacrifice bunt, advancing Masi to second base. Feller issued an intentional walk to Eddie Stanky, who was replaced by Sibby Sisti. Feller then tried to pick off Masi at second base. Indians’ shortstop Lou Boudreau appeared to tag Masi out, but umpire Bill Stewart called him safe.[9] Tommy Holmes proceeded to hit a single that allowed Masi to score the only run of the game, giving the Braves a 1–0 victory. Johnny Sain picks up the win allowing only four hits.

Lemon went 9 inning to beat Spahn 4--1 tossing 123 pitches.
Lemon gave up 8 hits, 3 walks, 5 strikeout.
The second game also made television history when a live broadcast of the Indians–Braves matchup was shown aboard the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Marylander passenger train travelling between Washington, D.C. and New York City, using a receiver operated by Bendix Corporation technicians. An Associated Press reporter observing the demonstration said, "Technically, it was surprisingly good." The Braves scored a run in the first off Bob Lemon on Bob Elliott's RBI single with two on, but Lemon held them scoreless for the rest of the game. After three shutout innings, Lou Boudreau hit a leadoff double in the fourth off Warren Spahn, then scored on Joe Gordon's single with Gordon advancing to second on the throw to home. One out later, Larry Doby's RBI single put the Indians up 2–1. Next inning, Dale Mitchell hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Boudreau's single. The Indians scored one more run in the ninth off Nels Potter when Jim Hegan reached on an error, moved to third on two groundouts and scored on Bob Kennedy's single. The series was tied 1–1 heading to Cleveland.

Doby's solo home run. Rookie knuckleballer Gene Bearden, whose playoff victory over the Red Sox was his 20th regular-season victory, tossed a five-hit shutout in Game 3. The Indians managed only five hits themselves, but scored two runs to capture the victory.

Gromek goes went 9 innings in a 2-1 win over Sain also pitching 9 innings.
Gromek gave up 7 hit, 1 home run, walked 1 and struck out 2, and throwing 95 pitches.
Sain had 2 complete games in the series giving up 2 total runs for 1 win and 1 loss.

Feller once again aimed for his first Series victory in Game 5, and once again Rapid Robert fell short.
The Braves totaled 11 runs, and Warren Spahn picked up the 11-5 victory with 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Feller gets rocked giving up 8 hits and 7 runs in 6.1 innings of work with 101 pitches.
Warren Spahn relieved in the 4th after Neil Potter gave up 5 run.
The Indians trailed 4-1 but picked up 4 runs to take 5-4 lead.
Spahn shut the Indians down picking up the win, pitching 5.2 innings in relief, giving up 1 run, and striking out 7.
Boston came up with a 6-run 7th to put the game away.
Satchel Paige made an appearance and retired the two guys he faced.

Back at Fenway Park for Game 6, the Indians boasted a 4-1 lead after seven-and-a-half innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Braves loaded the bases against starter Bob Lemon, and there was just one out.
Indians player-manager Lou Boudreau summoned Bearden from the bullpen.
in the championship game, Lemon pitched 7.1 innings,
Beardon relieved and went 1.2 innings. In this one Lemon gave up 8 hits and 5 walks only striking out 1 batter
Feller and Gromek in the bullpen. Indians trying to protect a 4-3 lead.
Lemon picked up 2 wins in the series but struggled in both games.

Makes you appreciate the games the way they used to play without all the new rules.

1920 World Series recap

Indians defeat Robins, 5 games to 2

In Game 1, right-hander Stan Coveleski tossed a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Indians past the Dodgers, 3-1. Catcher Steve O'Neill was the hitting star, with a pair of RBI doubles.

Brooklyn evened the World Series in Game 2 when spitballer Burleigh Grimes pitched a seven-hit shutout.

The Dodgers then took a 2-1 lead in the Series with a 2-1 victory in Game 3, unheralded left-hander Sherry Smith - a reliever most of the season -- allowing just three hits and one unearned run.

The Series finally shifted to Brooklyn for Game 4, a near carbon-copy of Game 1 as Coveleski again pitched a complete-game five-hitter, this time winning 5-1.

Cleveland took Game 5 easily, 8-1, and the contest featured three outstanding highlights.

In the first inning, Tribe right fielder Elmer Smith blasted the first-ever World Series grand slam over the right-field fence. In the fourth,

Cleveland starter Jim Bagby connected for a three-run homer, the first round-tripper by a pitcher in Series history.

And in the top of the fifth, with runners on first and second, Indians second baseman Bill Wambsganss snared Clarence Mitchell's line drive, touched second base to retire Pete Kilduff and tagged Otto Miller coming over from first, thereby recording the first (and so far, only) unassisted triple play in Series history.

Cleveland hurlers continued their brilliant run in Game 6, as Duster Mails limited the Dodgers to three hits. The only run of the game scored when Indians first baseman George Burns doubled home Tris Speaker in the sixth.

And in Game 7, Coveleski won his third game with his third five-hitter, this one a Series-clinching, 3-0 shutout. Thanks largely to Coveleski, in seven games Cleveland pitchers allowed only eight runs.
