Wow! Here we go again. Honestly, the only hitter capable of batting second in the lineup is Gimenez, not a rookie. Time to switch Gimenez and Martinez and take some of the pressure off the kid.

Nothing comes easily lately. Big win. Need one more on Sunday. Another nice outing by Williams. Two in a row. That's huge. Carrasco, Williams, and Bibee have been pretty solid through this bad stretch. I'd like to see Allen back after the break and hope Lively's last outing was just a hiccup. We need positive consistency from the starting rotation after the break

Allen with a bunch of speed pitches. Wonder if that's why they sent him down. Trailing 2-0, the Clips scored 3 in the 5th to take the lead.

A lack of clutch hitting has plagued Cleveland recently as it stumbled to the All-Star break. Entering Saturday, it had lost 10 of its previous 16 games. In those 10 defeats, the Guardians were a paltry 3-for-47 with runners in scoring position.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s hard to overlook Cleveland’s major league-leading 2.67 bullpen ERA, but if there is one figure that could be considered equally impressive, it’s the Guardians’ ability to prevent inherited runners from scoring when a relief pitcher enters the game.

On Friday, Scott Barlow and Xzavion curry combined to strand five inherited runners, with Curry striking out a pair after entering with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Cleveland’s bullpen has allowed just 32 of 133 inherited runners to score this season, a 24.1% rate that leads all of baseball.

The top three bullpens in terms of inherited runners scoring are all in the AL Central Division, as Detroit has allowed a total of 37 out of 138 to score (26.8%) and Kansas City 34 of 126 (27.0%).

Individually, Cade Smith leads the majors with just one out of 21 inherited runners scoring against him this season (4.8%). Tim Herrin ranks sixth in the American League with 5 of 24 inherited runners scoring (20.8%).

Manager Stephen Vogt said preventing inherited runners from scoring is a big part of how he evaluates a bullpen’s performance.

“All of our guys have been just absolutely phenomenal in that situation,” Vogt said. “Everybody we bring in mid-inning seems to get us out of trouble, so that’s a big one for me.”

Guardians enter Sunday's game against the Rays as underdogs against Pepiot. Pepiot has held opponamts to a .193 average across his 15 career day games (9 starts). Lively has his work cutout for himself. We need a quality start.

Why has the offense sputtered in July?

Combined batting average for our 4 all stars is 228 with 10 rbi in 175 at bats. Naylor has 4 of the 10. Jose has none; some because he has pitched around.

Meanwhile, Noel has 4 homers in his first 35 at bats. He's not much of an OF and of course he will have stumbles, but his power is real and could at worst make him a solid platoon player an he's done a great job as a pinch hitter.

Schneemann is not much of a SS, two errors in two starts. If Arias will be in staying in Columbus, they probably should give Martinez some more SS opportunities although it's clear they like him in CF.
Sorry about the continual experimenting, but there is no clear best lineup.
I don't see a downside to rotating players from AAA to Cleveland and back.

Williams pitched well. Will need 6 or 7 innings but he might be a major addition to the post All Star Game rotation

And Carrasco has surprised me by remaining a consistent and reliable back of the rotation starter

Noel has looked really good in RF. Very mobile for his size. He has looked as good as any other OF.

Not looking good. Gotta pitch shutouts to win and even that might not be enough. I still think we should swap Gimenez and Martinez in the lineup. You just don't put a rookie with no major league experience batting second in the lineup.
