4 solid innings by Plesac
3k 1bb for karinchak
Hit less inning for Cam Hill getting attention as possible bullpener
Bradley continues his good spring with single double and no spot to fit in unless they were willing to dump D Santana
Zimmer and Chang continue to stink
Re: GameTime!™
24377Civale with a good first outing.
Plesac with a good last outing.
Carrasco up and running.
And Bieber...duh....stud.
These are the most important things about this camp. And they are on course. Hold the fort until Clev gets back and our rotation is just fine.
And our hitting....even at it's worst has to be way better than last April.

24378Tito has his work cut out assembling a bullpen that get guys out.
Today's game Biebs was dominant ….. after that...nothing
Cuts can't come soon enough.

24379Jefry Rodriguez puts his 16.62 ERA on the line today. If Carrasco isn't ready for the start of the season we'll need a 5th starter no later than April 1.
Rodriguez is I guess competing with Logan Allen for 6th starter; Allen's spring line: 4 1/3 3 hits 5 walks 5 strikeouts 4 runs 2 earned. WHIP 1.85
Rodriguez's spring line: 4 1/3 6 hits 5 walks 4 strikeouts 2 homers 8 runs all earned WHIP 2.54
And possibly Scott Moss: 5 1/3 5 hits 5 walks 8 strikeouts 1 homer 8 strikeouts 2 runs WHIP 1.88
[The schedule is nuts: no off days from March 28 through April 12 everyone one of those days in a city with a pretty good chance of very cold weather and snow: Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota. Most crackpot of all: from April 9 through 12 the Tampa Bay Rays play 3 consecutive night games and Sunday afternoon in Cleveland.]

Re: GameTime!™
24380JRod not quite as lousy today but not especially good. Allowed a two run homer, and a double and single in 3 innings; walked two and hit a batter; one strikeout.
Jake Bauers giving Zimmer a run for team lead in strikeouts; 2 in 2 tries today; that makes 10 vs Zero walks; last spring his K/BB totals were 15/10,
Meanwhile Bobby Bradley who doesn't have a position unless they are willing to platoon him with Domingo Santana hit his 3rd spring homer. His slugging average is a bit below 800. And probably most impressively he's only struck out 4 times in 25 plate appearances.
Greg Allen remains unable to hit, drops his average to 105, but at least he stuck his body into a pitch as he does as well as anyone so he got on base once.
Jordan Luplow with his 3rd spring hit in 15 at bats, all for extra bases, a double today; and he drew a walk
Christian Arroyo who has won a job if only his offense matters; have no idea what they're thinking of his defense. He's drawn 2 walks in 2 trips. Those are the first 2 walks he's taken this spring; but line is an impressive 368/454/526
His competition Mike Freeman is hitless today but he's the one getting the day at SS which is crucial in the choice, Tito says. Mike's hit well in Arizona: 333/429/444.
If spring training performance counts for much in the roster decisions, I could see both Freeman and Arroyo winning jobs. That would require only 4 outfielders [the 5th could be D. Santana or Freeman]. None of the other OFs besides Reyes, Luplow and Mercado have hit for much but we know Deshields will be the 4th OF assuming Mercado is back in the lineup.
Can they also include Bradley? Maybe it gets down to Bobby vs, a 2nd utility IF; but he'll only stay if they are willing to play him some at the expense of the 2nd Santana.

24381I'll be there for the Indians at the Angels - Diablo Stadium in Tempe today.
Just a split squad game but still sunny and 70s should be fun.

Re: GameTime!™
24382You'll be watching Logan Allen: I'm interested in how he looks. He has been rated as high as one of the top 100 prospects but last year's performances dropped him down quite a bit. I know he's had control issues. Does he look like a big league starter? No. 5 spot to start the season is probably available to him if he can earn it.
Re: GameTime!™
24383Just looked at the lineup for today.
Of interest will be Franmil, Luplow, even Nolan Jones is in today. And we'll see if Bobby Bradley can keep up the good stuff.
Being a home game the Angels have each and every starter in.

Re: GameTime!™
24384How does Bobby win a job? I don't recall how much the investment is in Domingo Santana; he's not as cheap as a Hanley Ramirez or Carlos Gonzalez who they'd be willing to dump and let the impressive key take on the role. And beyond that they'd need Bobby to prove himself at the major league level. I do hope they give him a shot in April but since I'd also like to keep Mike Freeman and Christian Arroyo there's no room for him on my roster since 8 relievers are I'm sure mandatory for Francona [although I don't that many have earned jobs]
Re: GameTime!™
24385Before I post some pictures and comment on Franmil's pair of homers today, i have to say that Logan Allen got screwed today.
That scrub catcher let a ball get by him with a runner on 3rd.
That scrub Chang at ss dropped an easy popup.
And a double they hit was a freaking ball tailing away from scrub Bauers in LF that hit just inside the line near the wall. Bauers, in his defense, was playing the lefty hitter to pull.
So my overall view of Logan Allen was inconclusive. What a great body though, lefty who is simply huge but athletic. I can see the great arm there and potential and today was not to be held against him - Tito saw that.
Pictures to come.

Re: GameTime!™
24386I see Chang hit a homer and a single, but that was his 3rd error at SS and he clearly loses out to Freeman and/or Arroyo.
I don't know if he was hitting against major or minor leaguers but I see Johnson had a pair of hits, so after a hitless start to the spring [0-6 or maybe 0-8] he's now at 4-15, but still without the power he displayed last March.
It would be nice if Allen could stop walking people, 2 today in his 2 innings.
How did Gose look? a walk and a K in his one inning.
Which is better than Someone Named Weiss who walked 3 of the 4 he faced.
Not one of the numerous relievers was able to pitch a 1 2 3 inning.

Re: GameTime!™
24387both of our squads won both scoring 11. In the other game the big hitters were Brad Zimmer, hurray! with a single a double and NO strikeouts, and some no-hope RubberDucks [Garcia and Kreiger who hit a grand slam]
Civale was just fine again, 6 K a solo homer and a walk in 3 innings.
No one managed a perfect inning of relief here either. Nick Wittgren was especially ineffective allowing 3 runs on 3 hits including homer. Kyle Nelson's inning against the dregs of the Giants' lineup in the 9th had the best line, 1 hit 2 strikeouts in his inning.

Gose really looks the part, can't speak to his breaking stuff but certainly had the mitt popping loudly.
