Cardiac Captains Pull Off Dramatic Win

08/27/2012 10:25 PM ET

(Midland, MI) -

The Lake County Captains (35-28, 66-66) defeated the Great Lakes Loons (26-37, 62-71) by a final of 4-3. In the top of the ninth inning, Jose Ramirez lined a two out three-ball two- strike pitch down the left field line and motored into second base. His double scored Luigi Rodriguez to tie the game and Zach MacPhee scored from first to give the Captains the one run lead. Lake County held on for the 4-3 win.

Great Lakes scored early in the bottom of the first inning. Jesus Arredondo singled on the infield to start the rally. The next hitter up was Joe Winker. Winker un-loaded his ninth homerun of the season to right field and the score was 2-0 Great Lakes.

The score was made 2-1 in the top of the third inning. Luigi Rodriguez singled and was moved to second base on a bunt by Leonardo Castillo. Jose Ramirez picked up his first RBI of the night as he singled to right field and the Loons lead was cut to one run. Jordan Smith tied the game in the sixth inning, with his ninth homerun of the season way over the right field wall and the ballgame was tied 2-2.

James Baldwin un-loaded his seventh homerun of the season to deep right field and the Loons took the one run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. That gave Great Lakes a 3-2 lead but it was just setting the stage in the ninth for the smallest Captain to come up huge.

RHP Mason Radeke (7-6) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Radeke pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, and two earned runs. Mason struck out five on the night. Louis Head (2-0) pitched one inning allowing one earned run on one hit. The one hit was the James Baldwin homer. Enosil Tejada picked up his seventh save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

RHP Joel Lima (1-0) got the nod for the Loons. Lima did not get a decision. Lima pitched six innings, surrendered seven hits, two earned runs, no walks and three strikeouts. Lima also yielded the homerun to Smith. Daniel Carela (1-1) pitched one inning, and allowed one hit, two earned runs and two walks. He also struck out two but took the loss.

On Tuesday, The Captains will remain in Midland, Michigan to play the final game of a four game series with the Great Lakes Loons. The Captains will send LHP Elvis Araujo (7-9, 4.90) to the mound to face RHP Raydel Sanchez (3-8, 4.61) for the Loons. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM.

The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and play their home games at Classic Park in Eastlake, at the corners of State Route 91 and Vine Street. For more information on the Captains, please visit the team's official website at http://www.CaptainsBaseball.com.
