Even if we make the postseason, we have no players left!

Indians lose Brantley for remainder of season
Tribe calls up outfielder Head, options lefty Hagadone

By Zack Meisel / MLB.com | 08/28/11 11:13 AM ET

CLEVELAND -- Michael Brantley's season has ended.

The outfielder was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Sunday with a right wrist injury. Brantley first felt soreness in the wrist on the team's trip to Boston at the start of the month. He sat out the final two contests of that four-game series.

Brantley tried to play through it, however, avoiding a trip to the 15-day DL until he was placed on the list on Friday. He had sat out three of the team's four games against Seattle at the start of the week.

The original plan was to shut Brantley down for three to five days before deciding on a recovery process while he was on the DL.

Brantley met with Dr. Thomas Graham, a hand specialist, who determined the severity of the injury has changed since it first flared up in early August.

In 114 games this season, Brantley batted .266 with seven homers and 46 RBIs.

The Indians also purchased the contract of outfielder Jerad Head from Triple-A Columbus and optioned left-hander Nick Hagadone. Head was batting .284 with 28 doubles, 24 home runs, 67 runs scored and 70 RBIs in 114 games for the Clippers. He'll be wearing No. 32 and making his Major League debut.

Hagadone had been recalled on Friday and did not pitch in a game.

Un-freaking-believable.

At least it's nice for Jared Head, a career minorleaguer, who has never been considered anything but an organizational player. Not the sort of name generally added to the lineup of a team in a playoff hunt, but he's hit homers and for average but doesn't walk.

Who is in a playoff hunt?

The Cleveland Indians are in a playoff hunt.

One game at a time, and then cut Detroit off at the proverbial "Jimmy Hoffa knees" when we get 'em head on head for six more.

For the next four, let's show our Cleveland non-appreciation for Moneyball.

That will be a good start.

WARNING: I'll be totally pissed at anyone on this board who gives up unless we are mathematically eliminated.

(at least for an hour..... :-)......)

Criminy, with our injuries and the necessary playing of the rooks it is making for a Hollywood Ending.

The opponents before our post season are soft. We can get them.

Good idea to promote Jerad Head. He deserved the promotion.

Next promotion I'd like to see is Goedert.

We have to pick up the pace. We lost a 1/2 game this past week.

Whit flag alert from buck84 (I do have tickets to the Tigers series. The heart is willing but the head says, "no way").

My projected 2012 starting line up and roster.

Brantley CF
Kipnis 2B
Cabrera SS
Sanatana C
Choo RF
Hafner DH
Laporta 1B
Sizemore LF
Chisenhall 3B

Bench

Hannahan
Donald
Fukedome (doubtful but nice to have) Maybe Neal or Carrera

Masterson
Jimenez
Carmona
Tomlin
Carrasco

BP

Perez
Pestano
Smith
Perez
Sipp
Huff
Hagadone
Herrmann

That team should compete for a the Central with good health. Sizemore will not want to bat 8th. If Fukedome would sign for 3-4 mill, I would not exercise Sizemore's option. It would be great to get a proven RH bat instead of Sizemore or Fukedome.

Buck:

I am predicting that the Indians will sign a real RH OF who has some talent, and would replace Sizemore in your lineup. Not that he's worth a lot, but don't forget Trevor Crowe as a bench candidate. Neal doesn't seem to have much to offer. You left off Marson, by mistake I assume.
You're one pitcher too deep in your bullpen. I think one of the vet lefties will be gone and that Chen Lee will be there in place of Herrmann.
Not a bad team but still dependent on some not too unlikely bouncebacks by Choo and Santana; and good health from the starters or better depth on the bench. Hafner will not play more than 100 games. Does he ever?

Buck, no problema. I understand. Personally, my heart is there, it's quite mathematically possible, and similar has been achieved in MLB before.

I'd love to hear the stories of our injury decimation and numbers of roster moves by the brass being related to fans in our post season games of 2011......as we STILL make the playoffs.

I'm certainly a realist.

But also a sentimentalist, a facts guy, ....... and a dreamer.

(and a Joker, and a Midnight Toker.......not really!)

I'm not sure where the heck Rocky Raccoon/John Coltrane/Rocky Coltrane has been, but I'm getting tired of clicking on stories of bears killing guys in Yosemite and making sure it was not him......

(by the way JC, our soon to be 15 year old dog is doing great on her doggy glucosamine.....almost spring chicken stuff)

I was only half serious. Still watching every night, still hoping for wins, but I see that lineup and just have to wonder. We just don't have any horses to carry us. The arms are getting tired, and the bats are silent.

On a positive, Huff continues to look good. BIG stretch here, but his command and curve ball are starting to remind me of another lefty who "got it" after some failure.
