Stir crazy?

Look I know they make all this money blah blah blah. But people are people and they do not like being isolated.

So if you are a young guy, look around here in AZ and everyone is getting haircuts and going to outdoor seating restaurants WITH precautions it has to be quite tempting. Shoot th(ese guys are in their 20s and I do seem to have a vague memory of what I was like then and taking risks was kinda fun.

I was half kidding but with all that temptation (they are already back) and the penalty being so small why not take a chance. (Pretty sure many are doing that and succeeding.)

Once again they are already back. That's all you need to know.

I am thrilled Tito is talking about trying CF for Amed Rosario.

In an outfied that's been a graveyard for offense he absolutely has to get in there.

2019 batting line says it all - the most recent actual full season.

He should try Chang at 1B. Bradley hit but no field. Bauers field but no hit.

Yes Rosario's 2019 line is reasonably impressive; although far from perfect, way too few walks, way too many strikeouts, and a terrible base stealer. But more noticeably, compare it to Mercado's 2019

Both were notably worse in 2020, but it was hard to match Mercado

Rosario 252/272/361 643 OPS xb hits: 3-1-4 0/1 steals [better not to try] 4/34 bb/k that's awful [K 23% of AB]
Mercado 128/174/174 348 OPS xb hits: 1-0-1 3/3 steals [1 thing he can do better] 5/27 bb/k [K 29% of AB} that's awfuler

I have a draft for an ML league only tomorrow -- 10 teams.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated

Buck - done it a miliion times. What type of advice?

For the basics, a lot depends on the league settings for scoring. What gets emphasized? Is it categories? Points?

If it's categories then which categories?

Those types of things can be a separator when choosing between players.

But generally these days it's Trout, Betts, Juan Soto, Acuna, Tatis Jr. the top 5 and you can argue for any order between them.

civ - it's all opinion at this point but I do think we agree with one thing. Rosario's 2019. in the context of the Indians' outfield - is all world.

And perhaps we can agree to throw out both guys' 2020 as that "season" was lame at best and a lot of great players sucked.

As for Amed's 2019 vs. Mercado's .....the difference I see is that 2019 was Rosario's 3rd season in MLB. There is reason to think he made progress over lots of at bats. Pitchers adjusted to him - he adjusted back etc and yet he has his best season in his 3rd season. Isn't that the way it's supposed to go - you learn and get better.

Mercado - in my book - had one (and 438 at bats no less) season that he showed something.

Right or wrong assumption.. to me Rosario shows progress. He was way more tested. He's a veteran now at only 25. And he was tested in the NY market no less.

Mercado had a fluke season until proven otherwise. One season, not even a full one, makes me wary. I'd like to believe in Mercado but to me the jury is waaaay out.

I agree that at this point Rosario is a much more established, and still very young, player.

Was Just really comparing those 2 seasons: when I followed the link for Rosario I thought he'd see how it compared to Oscar's I had forgetten how much power Mercado showed that season.

I'm glad to see that Rosario stopped trying to steal bases last year.

Overall he was not too far off his pace in 2020 and maybe the Indians can work with him on his selectivity at the plate; I am sure the Mets tried, too, but it is one common denominator of Indians players to have good ratios of walks to strikeouts

Not Ben Gamel, looking solid with 2 singles in 14 At Bats.
Not Daniel Johnson with a single, a double and those 2 homers he hit one day.

It is an NL-only 10 team league.

I have 80% of my budget to spend so I can be aggressive early. Should I go more for pitching or batting? It is a 4 X 4 league. They could not runs or strike-outs.

Also, you can keep players for 3 years. Are there some good NL prospects that I should draft that could be a force later in the draft?

On a Tribe related subject,

Does anyone have a projection on who the Indians will keep in the bullpen. It seems like they have some good, young arms like Gose and Trevor Stephan. Will they keep Olover Perez and Jeff Shaw or give some young players a chance?

Jeff Shaw was dealt, if I recall, to the Reds about 30 years ago. His son Bryan [actually I think Jeff's real son is or has been a major leaguer, Travis Shaw?] Obviously I could like this up but it was more fun in the old days when we had to just rely on our memories.

Pluto's story today says he expects them to keep Shaw. Clase is looking great. Karinchak is not but will probably make the team to work on his command. Gose has impressed a lot. Yesterday was Stephen's first clunker. Don't hear a lot about Maton but he's done fine and I recently discovered he was ranked about No. 15 on his former team's prospect list a couple years ago. Is he yet another former Padre? I could look that up, too.

I suppose they'll keep Plutko for the bullpen. Hentges has been so impressive they may want him to stay as a starter in AAA whenever that season opens up, but since he's on the 40 man roster they could decide to give him a month major league test before the Clippers get going in May.

Wittgren is a cinch. That gets us up to a full crew. Without Perez who hasn't been too hot; could lose the lefty spot to Gose, and anyway with the 3 batter minimum his value diminishes.

buck - I've never done an auction draft, but in any keeper type league hitters are the better keepers. So if you have a pick in the first half of the first round it should be a hitter then use your next pick on the best pitcher left.

It goes without saying keep in mind they don't count strikeouts. So the Kyle Schwarbers of the world boost their value with a (lame) system like that.

Really there's a ton of sites that list prospects, even MLB.com. Here's one I like. It's for Dynasty leagues with is keeping players forever (of course you can trade them etc) so it's relelevant to your 3 year keeper style.

Fantrax is the go-to for that type of league.

Keep in mind that, unlike our Tristan McKenzie, some of these guys are young and a few years away but that often ADDS to their ranking value.

So in your case in an NL only league, a Christian Pache has already played for the Atlanta Braves.
