Catching up late, Gaylord, I hope you were able to get the free water and bumper sticker at Wall Drug along the way.... :-)

My last trip to Rapid City included a visit to Mt. Rushmore after sunset. If one does not get goosebumps watching that pomp and circumstance, one is not an American, in my book.

I also stopped by the monument to Sitting Bull, under construction since the Truman administration, and still not finished in the Obama administration. Just for historical perspective.

I was driving towards the Black Hills and "Badlands" on desolate roads and noted primitive signs propped up along the roadside advertising scenic helicopter tours. I bit, and jumped in the Bell helicopter that had been pulled there behind a pickup truck for the tours on that particular day.

I told the "pilot" that I was up for a full bore flight and thrill and he obliged, nearly scraping canyon walls and the ground below along the way. I tipped him well.

I read later after that particular trip that pilots who have lost their commercial license due to drugs, or what not, often pilot those kinds of road side attraction tourist trips.

I guess I was fortunate to catch this particular guy on a good day.

He was a very good Treetop Flyer.
