No distractions bother Mejia: promotion; journey to All Star game; to Futures Game; trade, wait no trade...

In his first game since nearly being traded to the Brewers in a package for Jonathan Lucroy, Indians prospect Francisco Mejia wasted no time in extendeding his hit streak to 43 consecutive games when he lined a single to right field in his first at-bat for Class A Advanced Lynchburg against Potomac on Monday.
With his first-inning single, Mejia's streak is the eighth-longest in Minor League history, and the longest in the Minors since James McOwen hit in 45 straight for High Desert in 2009.

On Saturday, the Indians and Brewers agreed on a trade that would have sent Mejia and two more of Cleveland's Top 30 Prospects -- shortstop Yu-Cheng Chang and outfielder Greg Allen -- along with reliever Shawn Armstrong to Milwaukee for Lucroy. The deal was nixed on Sunday, though, when Lucroy exercised his no-trade clause. Mejia and Chang were both held out of the Hillcats' lineup on Sunday but were back in the lineup on Monday night, hours after the non-waiver Trade Deadline passed.

Perhaps most impressive in Mejia's current run is how he's hurdled major obstacles that could've potentially led to a hitless night.

Mejia was promoted to Lynchburg 24 games into the streak, and he has had three layoffs of four days or more during his incredible run: four days due to the Midwest League All-Star Game on June 21, in which he fittingly registered a hit; four days due to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on July 10, in which he also recorded a hit; and he was sidelined from July 18-22 while dealing with the stomach flu. He then blocked out the commotion that surrounded him for several days as the Trade Deadline approached. Also adding to the marvel, Mejia has been his team's catcher in 34 of the 43 games, while serving as the designated hitter in the others.

Clippers 9th inning rally falls just short as they lose 5-4 to the 2nd place Indy Indians. Zimmer had his best AAA game to date, 3-4 with a homer and a walk. Yandy went 3-5 with double and Urshela 2-4.

The Ducks go down 6-4. Allen 1-4 and Papi 2-4 with 2 doubles.

Lynchburg wins big, 9-2. Mathias 2-3 with a double and a walk. Santander and Krieger 1-3. Marabell and Bradley 1-4.

Captains go down 3-1. Jodd Carter continues his hot hitting, 2-3 with double and walk.

Scrappers score in btm of 8 to win 2-1. Gabe Mejia 1-4.
