Again without Mejia in the lineup Lynchburg is drubbing Carolina again, 8-0 in the 5th, behind Sean Brady on the mound and everyone hitting. Tonight Bradley has hit his 18th, Mathias his 5th; Santander his 27th double/

Here are the July OPS for each guy in the Hillcats lineup:
Greg Allen .721, hitting 254, he's in a bit of a slump
Mark Mathias 1.096, hitting .388
Anthony Santander 1.142 with 7 homers and a .351 average in July
Bobby Bradley, the kid on this team, 1.014 with now 3 homers, .317 average and 14 walks against his 20 K
Yu-Cheng Chang, .916
Tyler Krieger .918
Luigi Rodriguez only .867
backup OF Tyler Murphy .671
and backup C Alex Monsalve .143: Francisco Mejia when he's played has a July OPS of merely .830

Don't worry about Murphy's troubles, Dorsyss Paulino should be back soon.

Clip show wins 2-0 tonight on a 2 run homer by Yandy Diaz. He went 2-3 tonight and had a walk. He is now hitting .332 with an OBP well over 400.

Angry Ducks got beat, Zimmer and Frazier combined to go 0-8 with 4 K.

Lynchburg got smacked around in a rain shortened game. Greg Allen was 2-2 with a walk and a steal. He's been slumping a bit lately so good to see him have a decent night. Santander was 2-3 with 2 doubles. Only 4 hits on the night.

Lake County ... Is ... Well .... Depressing. ... Lose 7-0 tonight. No real highlights. I wore my Captains hat around this evening. Didn't help.

MV Scrappers win big. G.Mejia 3-4 with a double and 2 walks. Calica stays hot, 3-5 with a triple.

Last man on bench? We just don't see eye to eye on Diaz at all. He should be starting at 3rd. Instead Tito and his love affair with worthless veteran cheerleaders is keeping him down.

Just noticed that both Lynchburg and Lake County played double headers yesterday. They both split too.

Bradley and Mathias both homered in the game I originally missed. #18 for Bradley.

Last man on Tito's bench is usually a busy guy -- he would get work all over the field. I have nothing against Diaz, he's hitting like mad and deserves to be in the majors. My assumption that we won't become the everyday 3B is based on the way he's being used in Columbus. If he were being groomed to become everyday in the majors, I'm sure he'd be played the position much often in the minors.

Great news! I finally get my Frankie Fix! And he returned to the lineup in grand fashion. Grand Slam fashion I should say! 1-2, grand slam, 4 RBI, and 2 walks. 37 game hitting streak now. Amazing. Greg Allen and Bobby Bradley also homered for the victorious Cats. #19 for Bradley.

Clevinger and Clips got the W but he was pretty bad today. Yandy 2-3 with a triple, walk, and 3 RBI.

Ducks lose but big day for Frazier. 4-5 with double homer and 3 ribbie. Zimmer 2-4 and had an assist from OF.

Captains, bless their heart. Score 4 runs in top of 9th to take 8-7 lead, just to give up a walk off 2 run homer in bottom of 9th. Lukes with 2 doubles, Marabell with one.

Scrappers win. G.Mejia 2-4 with a SB. Calica 2-3 with a walk, double, and SB. Civali 1 hit and 3K in 3 innings. No runs. ERA is 1.13 now.

You got all the big lines there Hillbilly. I read in PD that Mejia had a strained throwing arm which is why he rested awhile. The bat did not chill, however. I am going to try to look up some historical info on longest minor league hitting streaks. I know the 2016 best was something like 27 before he burst past.

Bradley has had good July, even before the homers returned, with an improving walk total and more plain old singles.

SUMMARY
Lynchburg and Carolina combined for 18 runs in the first three innings. The Hillcats prevailed 12-10 with only seven hits in the game, three of which left the yard. Francisco Mejia hit a grand slam in the first inning of his first game in nearly a week. Bobby Bradley and Greg Allen added homers as well.

QUALITY, NOT QUANITY
Carolina outhit Lynchburg 13-7, but none of them left the yard. The Mudcats pounced on starter Anderson Polanco early and scored four runs in the first frame. The Hillcats answered with a five run inning with the help of walks to Greg Allen and Anthony Santander. A Bobby Bradley single drove in Allen. With the bases loaded Francisco Mejia hit his second home run for the Hillcats and extended his hitting streak to 37 games overall. Lynchburg took a 5-4 into the second.

Carolina tacked on two more runs in the second after a Luis Valenzuela double and a single by Omar Obregon. Obregon advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout by Isaias Tejeda. Lynchburg took the lead in the bottom half with three more runs. Mark Mathias was hit by a pitch above the eye and stretchered off the field, but he checked out okay at the hospital. Anthony Santander and Yu-Cheng Chang walked and singled respectively, which drove in Tyler Krieger. Two batters later, Luigi Rodriguez singled to drive in two runs and make the score 8-6.

Bobby Bradley hit his league leading 19th homer to drive in Paul Hendrix and Krieger, both of whom reached on walks. Greg Allen hit a solo shot over the right field wall in the fifth inning to give the Hillcats a 12-8 lead. The Mudcats added two more runs in the ninth, but Trevor Frank held off the rally to give the 'Cats a 12-10 victory.

Cam Hill (6-1) earned the win after entering in the third and only allowing one earned run in three frames. Mitch Brown and David Speer worked a combined three scoreless innings with Brown pitching two of those and striking out three.
[as a reliever he's pitching well. I imagine they'll try getting him back to starting at some point. But the turnaround is dramatic although pretty short-term.]

SHORT HOPS
The Hillcats now have 95 home runs, which puts them on pace for 136, breaking the record of 131 set by the 2002 team…Lynchburg and Carolina have combined for 54 runs in the first four games of the series…The 'Cats have 17 homers in their past 10 contests.

ON DECK
Lynchburg will wrap up its five-game series with the Mudcats Sunday at 2 p.m. Southpaw Luis Lugo (6-3, 3.99) will be on the mound for Lynchburg against Caleb Beech (1-2, 4.60). Fans can listen to the action on 93.3 FM and 1320 AM as well as www.lynchburg-hillcats.com, beginning with the Hillcats On-Deck Show at 1:45 p.m.

Yes, Civ, I have been happy with the way Bradley is progressing. He is still only 20 years old. Still plenty of time for him to improve & become consistent in that regard.

I had not seen what the injury was to Frankie, was beginning to get worried. I tweeted to the Hillcats and asked them but nobody answered me back. Minor league teams are hit or miss with that stuff.
