After 9 games we have already added to the active roster:

P Sean Marcum [and sent him away again]
P Austin Adams [after a prior demotion]

We've removed from the roster:
C Yan Gomes
P Austin Adams but brought him back
P Kyle Crockett, despite his 0 era
P Sean Marcum, see above
[and someone will go to make room for Salazar]

Gomes is the one that makes the most difference, of course. I hope Swisher and Brantley can return soon and be productive. We need to score more runs!

MINNEAPOLIS -- In need of a roster spot for starter Danny Salazar, the Indians optioned reliever Austin Adams to Triple-A Columbus prior to Saturday's game against the Twins.
A shift in thinking for the rotation led to Adams being the odd man out in Cleveland's bullpen. Salazar was recalled from Triple-A in order to start Saturday's game and the plan is to keep him in the starting staff. As a result, right-hander Zach McAllister -- already with two relief outings under his belt this season -- will remain in the bullpen for the foreseeable future.

That meant that the right-handed Adams drew the short straw, considering he has Minor League options available for Cleveland to use. In two appearances for the Tribe this season, the 28-year-old Adams has posted a 1.93 ERA with only one strikeout and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.

"His last outings have been pretty good," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "I said, 'Someday, you'll be the kid that doesn't have the options.' He understands. It's kind of unfortunate for the player, but for the organization, you kind of know going into the year that there's guys that have options."

Francona has typically gone with eight relievers in the past, but Saturday's move means the Tribe has seven arms in its bullpen. Helping matters is the fact that McAllister and right-hander Anthony Swarzak have the ability to log multi-inning outings.

Kind of bizarre really since we have 4 starters who look very very good, one who stinks and that results in a record of 4-7.

Of course the almost complete lack of offense is most of the problem. There's not one hot hitter.

My two "key" players coming in were Bauer for the pitching and I sure can't complain about him; and Kipnis for the offense and he's looking as bad as before his postseason "recovery". He and Santana have identical 244 averages but Carlos is ahead by about 200 points in OPS. Kipnis hits an occasional single and that's his entire contribution.

Bourn continues to be a terrible leadoff man, but that's no surprise. And Murphy and Raburn continue to be useless RF/DH which also does not surprise. Moss is supposed to be a major addition but since he came north he's been bad as the rest of the outfielders.

Seems kind of hard to single out guys at this point to me, since the whole lineup is struggling.

For example, look at Brandon Moss. I have no doubts at all that he will end up hitting, and hitting well. But he is caught in that
funk that the whole lineup is in.

It will swing back.

Kind of reminds me of how hard it was to watch the early season Cavs. Ugly.
